Jasper County Emergency Management Agency, Jasper County Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO), and the Newton Development Corporation have partnered with Safeguard Iowa to present a business continuity workshop on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 8:30—11:30 a.m. on DMACC’s Newton Campus, at 600 N 2nd Avenue.

The workshop is designed to help businesses and organizations assess and mitigate threats, and develop plans to maintain critical operations and begin recovery in the wake of emergencies and natural disasters. Organizations that currently have an emergency or continuity plan are encouraged to attend to update their plans. Attendees are asked to bring their laptops to the training to access online threat assessment tools.

Statistically, nearly 1 out of 3 businesses are impacted by an emergency or disaster at some point. Of those businesses that experience a disaster, 40% do not reopen, and another 25% fail within the first year of the disaster. The majority of businesses do not have a disaster plan.

There is no charge to attend the workshop, but online registration is required by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 7. Businesses are encouraged to attend with key members of their organization’s leadership team. For questions about the workshop, contact Safeguard Iowa at sip@safeguardiowa.org or 515-650-0424.
