Two Baxter businesses receive JEDCO grants

Baxter’s Main Street businesses are in the midst of a glow-up, thanks to a partnership between the city, local businesses and JEDCO, the Jasper County Economic Development Corporation. Both Benola’s and Java Java on Main have received grants from JEDCO, which have allowed the businesses to make needed upgrades.

JEDCO offers two separate grants to local businesses, a facade grant, which provides for improvements to the street-facing exterior of the business, and a small grant, which can be used for other small projects. The cost of the facade grant is split between JEDCO, the city and the business, with JEDCO and the business each covering 40 percent of the project, with the city supplying the final 20 percent. For the small grant, the city covers 25 percent of the project cost, with JEDCO paying the remaining 75 percent.
