Baxter and Colfax have recently received grant awards to help advance their community development activities

Baxter Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO) received a $10,000 BOOST Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The Rural Building Ownership & Organization by Strengthening Teams (BOOST) Program provides funding and technical assistance to rural Iowa communities to support economic and business development efforts. The BOOST Program aims to provide teams of experts to assist passionate community and business leaders in developing intentional plans for next-step growth in communities with populations of 20,000 or less.

Colfax was one of 25 communities nationwide to receive a T-Mobile Hometown Grant. Colfax will use its $46,000 grant to improve its downtown by creating a pocket park in the alleyway adjacent to Colfax City Hall. The park project will include the creation of a brick paver patio, tables, chairs, bicycle racks, planter boxes, a sculptural partition, and other public art to create an outdoor community gathering space in the underutilized alleyway.
