DMACC has launched a public fundraising campaign to support the continued development of the greenspace at Legacy Plaza.
When completed, the greenspace will contain a large art sculpture, an all-season pavilion that can be used for concerts in the warmer seasons and an ice-skating rink in the winter, and a walking trail with shade trees to connect Legacy Plaza to downtown Newton. It is anticipated that the sculpture will be installed in spring 2025.
The greenspace is part of the Newton Legacy Reinvestment District, a public-private partnership between Christensen Development, Jaspers County, and the City of Newton. Christensen Development is renovating the old Maytag buildings to create a 78-unit apartment complex and a boutique hotel with a craft cocktail bar in the lobby.
