Chichaqua Valley Trail
This 26-mile recreational trail, established 1987, is located in western Jasper County, extending into Polk County. This paved trail is popular with cyclists, runners and hikers.
The trail cuts through sprawling meadows, rolling farmland and beautiful hardwood timbers, full of wildlife, providing serene landscapes.
Trail access points are available along the trail at Baxter, Ira, Mingo, and Valeria.
Motorized vehicles are prohibited, except for maintenance and emergency vehicles. This restriction does not apply to a manual-operated or power-driven device designed primarily for use by an individual with a mobility disability.
The trailhead for the Chichaqua Valley Trail is the center of Baxter. This trail was developed on abandoned Chicago-Northwestern right-of-way, with 24 miles being acquired through a joint effort of the Department of Natural Resources and the Polk and Jasper County Conservation Boards.
