Colfax and Newton Receive Main Street Iowa Development Awards

Colfax Main Street and Newton Main Street were among the communities that received state awards and special recognitions at the Main Street Iowa Development Awards held on Friday, April 19, in Des Moines.

Colfax Main Street and Newton Main Street both had Leadership Award Recipients. The Leadership Award recognizes inspirational leadership and volunteers who make significant contributions to the local Main Street program.

Colfax Main Street Board Member Becca Stonehocker received The Main Street Iowa Leadership Award for her volunteerism in Downtown Colfax. In addition to her service as secretary for the board of Colfax Main Street, Becca coordinates volunteer opportunities in Downtown Colfax for her coworkers at Bank Iowa and directly participates in hands-on volunteering for Downtown Colfax projects and activities. 

Newton High School’s Touchdown Club received a Leadership Award for the service its students provide throughout Newton. 

Main Street Iowa has been a state program supporting downtown revitalization since 1985. Colfax has been a Main Street community since 2009 and was recognized for celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. Newton joined the program in 2014 and was recognized for reaching its tenth-anniversary milestone.
