Spark! Places of Innovation, a Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibition, allows visitors to explore how small towns across the country have overcome challenges, created groundbreaking products, and embraced opportunities that transform their communities—and sometimes the world.
The exhibit highlights stories from over 30 rural communities nationwide, showcasing the unique relationship between place and creativity. Whether technical, social, cultural, or artistic, each innovation reflects the character of the community that inspired it. Through vibrant visuals, personal narratives, and hands-on elements, Spark! celebrates the power of ingenuity in small towns like Newton.
The exhibit Spark! Places of Innovation is part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program and is hosted at Legacy Plaza by the City of Newton and the Historic Preservation Commission.
