Save Yourself the Headache; Shop Locally This Holiday Season

16 Nov 2021

Thanksgiving is next week, bringing the annual day of feasting, football, and parade viewing. It also used to bring us the traditional holiday shopping kickoff, but not this year. This year, economists have warned us that if we’ve waited this long to start our holiday shopping, we may be too late. U.S. ports backlogs, combined with a shortage of truck drivers, have been causing concerns that holiday goods could be scarce this year. The early shoppers will get the goods, while those who wait until the traditional start of the holiday shopping season may be left empty-handed.

With the supply chain challenges, this holiday season is the ideal time to consider purchasing gifts from local artists, stores selling items made closer to home, or gift cards for local services (think restaurants, hair styling, and massages).

Money spent with local businesses in Jasper County supports our friends, neighbors, and communities. There are many choices in Jasper County that will help you avoid the frustration of delays in the supply chain and help recirculate your holiday spending in the local economy.

Many of our communities in Jasper County will be celebrating Small Business Saturday on November 27. Instead of heading out to the mall or spending time in front of a screen, ordering online, consider venturing out to explore what businesses, artists, and craftspeople have available locally. Check out the Shopping and Dining, along with the Arts, Entertainment, and Culture listings on JEDCO’s website.

By shopping locally, you not only make your own holidays happy, but you help brighten the holidays for area businesses and the local economy.
