The North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Pappajohn Center and the Small Business Development Center are teaming up to offer a free two-hour virtual workshop designed for anyone interested in starting a business.

The workshop, Start Smart, will be offered via Zoom on Feb. 10 from 6-8 p.m.

Workshop participants will learn how to create a business plan, conduct market research, evaluate different types of business ownership, and learn how to register a business, according to a NIACC news release.

The activities involved in starting a business fall under two broad categories: feasibility (the business plan) and administrative tasks. Smart Start will provide information and a chance to ask questions about other topics, including business registration, customer research, how bankers evaluate business concepts and loans, startup costs, business plan tips and more.

After attending Start Smart, participants can make an appointment to meet individually via phone with Small Business Development Center counselors to review business plans or provide guidance with other issues.

Registration is required, and can be completed by going to and clicking on register near the bottom of the page. For more information, contact Mary Spitz of the SBDC office by phone at (641) 422-4342 or by email at
